Factory quality control before furniture is shipped

Rejecting an item in a factory costs a day. Rejecting it in a finished guest room costs a room, a programme and a relationship.

Agree the inspection plan at award

An inspection plan issued after production has finished is an argument waiting to happen. Agreed at award, it tells the factory exactly what will be measured and photographed.

Inspect against a signed sample

Inspection needs a physical reference. Without a signed control sample, a finish dispute becomes a matter of opinion and the buyer usually loses it.

What is actually checked

A useful inspection covers dimensions, construction, finish, hardware operation, packing and quantity, with photographs of each checked item.

  • Dimensional check against the approved drawing
  • Finish and colour against the signed sample
  • Construction and joint quality
  • Hardware, mechanisms and electrical function
  • Packing, labelling and quantities

Close out before release

Defects should be closed and re-inspected before shipment is authorised. A shipment released with open defects has simply moved the problem to the most expensive place to fix it.
