Adan Hospital — MEP Rehabilitation

Kuwait · Delivered · MEP rehabilitation package

Scope

HVAC, power distribution, lighting, plumbing

Type

Live hospital rehabilitation

Constraint

Continuity of clinical operation

Interfaces

Existing hospital services, estates team

Rehabilitation and upgrading of the existing MEP infrastructure of a live hospital: modification, replacement, extension and installation of services around continuing clinical operation.

01Coordination

Set out against services already in the building

The starting point was an existing installation, not a clean model. Surveys, isolations and phasing were agreed with the estates team before any date was committed.

  • Survey and mark-up of existing MEP infrastructure
  • Phase plan agreed around clinical decant and access windows
  • Isolation and shutdown schedule issued in advance
  • Interfaces with retained services identified and protected

02Plantroom

New capacity brought on without dropping the old

Replacement plant and distribution were installed and proven in parallel with the existing installation, then switched over inside agreed windows.

  • Parallel installation with temporary cross-connections
  • HVAC plant and chilled-water distribution replaced and extended
  • Electrical power distribution modified and extended by zone
  • Switchover executed in short, rehearsed windows

03Commissioning

Tested area by area

Each area was tested and commissioned before being released back to hospital use, with records issued per zone rather than at the end of the contract.

  • Testing and commissioning of installed HVAC and electrical systems
  • Balancing recorded against design tolerances
  • Integration with retained systems verified
  • Sign-off pack per area, not per project
Technician commissioning installed mechanical equipment
Commissioning — verified and recorded before clinical release

04Handover

Handed back in documented stages

The estates team received a fully documented area at each stage, keeping the hospital operational throughout the works.

  • Stage-level as-builts and test certificates
  • Asset information reconciled with the estates records
  • Staff briefed on new controls and alarms at handback
  • Residual works tracked on one open list
