MEP case study · Leisure & themed environments
IMG Worlds of Adventure
Dubai, UAE · Delivered · MEP installation package
Scope
HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire systems
Type
Indoor themed attraction
Environment
Sculpted composite geometry, ride systems
Interfaces
Ride systems, theming, lighting, smoke control
Building services routed through sculpted themed geometry across one of the world's largest indoor theme parks, where no ceiling repeats and every service route sits behind a show surface.
01 — Coordination
Services routed through geometry with no repeat
Ducts, sprinkler drops and cable routes were set out against the themed geometry, so penetrations were planned into the build rather than cut through finished theming on site.
- Survey of structure and themed surfaces before service routing
- Ride-system clearances treated as fixed no-go volumes
- Access hatches designed into the themed surface, not added after
- Builder's work openings issued once, from the coordinated set-out

02 — Plantroom
Back-of-house sized to carry the show
Plant and distribution were sized for peak guest occupancy and show loads, with routes kept entirely out of guest sightlines and maintenance access retained behind the theming.
- Plant sized for peak occupancy and show-effect heat loads
- Distribution routed behind themed surfaces with maintained access
- Vibration and acoustic isolation adjacent to guest areas
- Containment set out against the surveyed structural grid

03 — Commissioning
Tested under show conditions
Systems were proven under simulated show and peak-occupancy conditions, with fire, smoke control and effects interlocks tested together rather than trade by trade.
- Smoke-control and cause-and-effect testing with effects running
- Cooling verified at peak occupancy and full lighting load
- Show-control and BMS interfaces proven end to end
- Snagging closed zone by zone ahead of public opening

04 — Handover
Opened on a fixed public date
Operations received a tested, documented building with maintenance routes that survive the theming — the difference between a set and an operating attraction.
- As-built information including concealed service routes
- Maintenance access map issued with the O&M package
- Operator and technician training before opening
- Aftercare through the first operating season
